Hair Essentials

Happy Monday, guys! Hope you start off your week refreshed, well rested, and ready to take on the world! For me, having a good hair wash day is essential for that! When it comes to any type of hair product, just remember that everyone is made uniquely different. What works for me might not work for you. Always do a little research and know your hair/skin type before making a purchase.

That being said, my hair type is 2A with medium porosity. My scalp is sensitive and can be dry at times, dependent on the product ingredients, water type (hard vs. soft), and weather conditions (high humidity vs. low), etc… All these products are ones I’ve repurchased and will a million times over!

Hair Wash

I like using the scalp massager with my favorite shampoo. I do circular motions. Doing this will help promote hair growth by creating blood flow, and it loosens up all the flakes. When using conditioner, I always apply it from my mids to ends using a wide-tooth comb/brush or simply your fingers. The point is to make sure the conditioner gets evenly distributed.

Microfiber Hair Towel Wrap: when I get out of the shower I squeeze out any excess water from my hair, then I use a regular towel or t-shirt and let it sit for a couple minutes, before transferring it over to a microfiber hair towel. I’ll leave this on my head for about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on if I have other things I can do while I wait for my hair to dry. I usually focus on my skincare routine, body lotion, oils, etc… This may seem like a lot of steps, but it’s only because my hair is so long.

Brushes and Combs

Quick Dry Hairbrush: My husband and I used to fight over this hairbrush whenever he had long hair, so I finally bought a second one. He ended up chopping his hair off, so now we have an extra. Which actually worked out surprisingly well because I like using this brush in the shower and then after when I apply my leave-in products. So I ended up keeping one in the bathroom and the other in our room.

Bristle Brush: Great for distributing your natural hair oils from your roots to ends! Especially if you have long hair, it just takes a lot longer for your natural oils to get to your end of your hair. So it is so important to make sure to brush your hair at least twice a day to optimize on your natural oils.

Silk Hair Products + Accessories

Silk Pillow Cases: What I think I love most about using any silk products for hair (besides all the great benefits) is that I just never feel guilty, lol. It promotes hair growth by reducing breakage and frizz. I’ve used these silk scrunchies relentlessly over the years and just can’t bring myself to use any other hair ties. Silk scarves are great for heatless curls. I’m just saying you can’t go wrong using silk products, and your hair and skin will thank you later!

Square Claw Clips: So comfortable! In my opinion, these are just so much better than the circle shaped claw clips (which always hurt my head by the end of the day). But the square ones are like a comfy pair of shoes. You can walk all day in them without hurting.

I’m not a hair expert whatsoever. Most products I use are from trial and error. I always love experimenting and trying new things, but when it comes to product recommendations, old faithful is the way to go. I hope you find that perfect product for you or your loved ones, too!
